Made, Makers, Making....

Hanging day at Cliffe Castle for the Thread Running Through exhibition.  What a large space to fill, but the work looks lovely in the upper gallery of the Bracewell Smith Hall!  Thanks to the Textilia team and Heather and Dave from the museum.

Heather has also dressed the two large cabinets at the entrance to the gallery as if it was a study day, complete with blue vinyl handling gloves and oceans of acid-free tissue paper.

Come and meet the makers at our free drop-in workshop on Saturday 9th November 2019:

‘A piece of history’
Make do and Mend!  Turn your favourite scraps of fabric into a small cushion with our free workshop.
Learn how Victorian families made patchwork fabrics from old clothes, ribbons and off-cuts of fabric.  Nothing was wasted and everyone from the lady of the house to the poorest worker would use the same technique of English paper piecing.
We will have all the tools and materials needed to make a small sample patchwork, but participants are encouraged to bring their own fabric too.

Suitable for all ages, beginners and experienced sewers alike.  There will be plenty of help on hand throughout the session.  You will find us in the conservatory from 12 noon until 3pm.
