Thread Running Through

Heather Millard (seated) shows the group some of the treasures from the Butterfield collection

Thread Running Through is the working title for a new collection of work to be displayed at Cliffe Castle, Keighley from November 2019.  As a starting point, we have been studying the industrious Butterfield family who rebuilt Cliffe Hall as it was then and created a Castle worthy of any film set.  With lavish furnishings imported from Europe and a grand winter garden, the house was a showcase of wealth in which to entertain guests.

Heather Millard, curator at Cliffe Castle museum, showed us some of the wonderful linens, curios and letters that have survived from the Butterfield family.

Our Gifted exhibition at Gawthorpe Hall continues until the end of June and this weekend (Saturday 18th May) there is an opportunity to meet Textilia 3 members, Annie Smith and Julie Coghlan from 1pm until 4pm.
