The Imposter in the Room

We all feel it:  those nagging doubts that you will be exposed as a fraud; that our work isn't good enough, not the right calibre; out of our depth.  Imposter sydrome can be a crippling affliction and highly destructive.

Lucky for us that the Textila team are on hand to offer support, encouragement and affirmation that our work is worthwhile.  This month, as we cautiously showed our samples, embryonic pieces of work or discussed our thoughts, the rest of the group gently teased out the nuggets of ideas and suggested new avenues to explore.

Kirsty has been experimenting with machine embroidered monograms using fine silk handkerchiefs as a base.  The pink colour is not a conscious statement, but a marker pen out of control!

Margaret's aprons are well underway:  The butler (green), weaver (patched denim) and the head gardener (blue floral) all have their own uniforms.  She has incorporated scraps of fabric from previous projects and workshops, each telling their own story.  We can't wait to see what the maid's apron will be like.
Maggie's scarves are taking shape.  We loved the different types of embellishment she has sampled for the final pieces.

While Claire was waiting for inspiration to strike, she decided to walk in the footsteps of the Butterfield's, from their first house at Pickles Hill all the way to Cliffe Castle in Keighley.  The resulting sketchbook is a great starting point for a new piece.

Four creative journeys, all different and not an imposter in sight!
