Textile imprint on porcelain clay (photo: Gemma Kelmanson) |
Whilst our common ground is textiles, the Textilia 3 group dabble in all kinds of media. Julie Coghlan trained as a surface pattern designer and happily moves from working with watercolour paints to wool or ceramics. She gave us a masterclass on using porcelain clay to produce small embellishments for our own work. Once we had rolled the silky-smooth clay to a thin sheet, we used fragments of lace, stamps and papers to create interesting textures on the surface before brushing with under-glaze to add colour.
