Speaking for ourselves

We often suppress our inner voices, shouting them down with scolding words:  not good enough or you can't say that or who do you think you are?  Unlocking our creativity and imagination can give these voices a platform and the Textilia members are certainly listening to what their souls are saying.

In the top image, Susie is using hexagons to represent some of the complex chemical interactions that affect mind and body, mixing it with her talent for fine art portraiture.

Using a pared-back palette and different weights of paper, Kirsty is exploring the many layers of personality and feelings of security.

Above left, Catherine Slater recreated the mental 'walks' that she takes when she is unable to sleep.  There are quite a few of these!  Jo has also been digging deep into the characters that accompany her throughout each day.  This little Selkie (above right) looks rather mischievous.

Margaret has used fragments and fabrics collected over many years to evoke the different roles that she plays as a wife, mother, daughter, friend.  All richly embellished with her customary stitches.

Look out for these works at the Mill Bridge Gallery in December 2022.
