Small pleasures

Sue Ingles

Ideas... experiments... trials...tacking stitches... placement.

As the Textilia 3 group of artists work on the development of their designs for the forthcoming TREASURED exhibition it is lovely to see how stories emerge from our cherished items.  Sue is exploring the Japanese culture of revered artisans whilst Margaret has been inspired by an embroidered badge from Chinese ruling classes.

Jo Valentine
Jo is stitching a story of imagined treasures that might have been buried in an ancient grave of a lost queen - tokens and talismans, all safely hidden within embroidered pots.

Julie Coghlan
Julie's workhorse knitting machine has been handed down from her mother and is still making fine knitwear after 65 years.  The tools of the trade have been used to make patterns in ceramic squares.

Follow our progress of the Summer months as we prepare for our exhibition at Farfield Mill.
