Taking the slow route

Slow stitch sampler book - Julie Coghlan

We each have to find our own way into a new project.  For some this involves visual research: drawing sketching & sampling, whilst others choose a more academic approach of researching the subject matter through text books.  A number of us have found that the slow days of lockdown has allowed us to be more reflective, looking back on our previous work and finding common themes.

Julie Coghlan is using slow stitching to take a more meditative approach to the project.  'It's easy to pick up and play with the fabric, reassemble and slow stitch', she days.  Using a fabric sketchbook to record her samples she has taken the preface for the book as her inspiration to explore all her feelings of change.
